Biography
Franco-German David Hermann has established himself in recent seasons as one of the leading opera directors of his generation. He was nominated as Best Director at the 2018 International Opera Awards in London for his Krenek Trilogy at Oper Frankfurt, which won in the category ‘Rediscovered Work’.

The season 2023/24 will see new productions of Strauss‘ Frau ohne Schatten at Staatsoper Stuttgart and Wagner’s Parsifal at Staatstheater Nürnberg as well as a world premiere at the Schwetzinger Festspiele. Furthermore he will also revive his productions of Cendrillon at Opéra de Lausanne and Cosi fan tutte at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.

Most recent engagements include the world premiere of Gordon Kampe‘s Dogville (Aalto Theater Essen, nominated by Deutscher Theaterpreis Der Faust 2023 in the category ‘Oper’ for direction and stage design/light), Tannhäuser (Opéra de Lyon), Fidelio (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Falstaff  (Staatstheater Nürnberg, Opéra national de Montpellier), Cosi fan tutte (Opéra National du Rhin), Lohengrin (Staatstheater Nürnberg), I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Theater Bern), several short works by Frank Martin and Schoenberg, including Erwartung in an evening titled Warten Auf Heute (Oper Frankfurt), Das Lied von der Erde (Oper Stuttgart), Cendrillon (Opéra national de Lorraine, Theater Klagenfurt) and the world premiere of ’Tis Pity she is a Whore (Deutsche Oper am Rhein).More
