Biography
Described by Süddeutsche Zeitung as “the master singer who achieves miracles” Dutch tenor Marcel Beekman is reknown for his interpretation of operatic character roles as well as early and contemporary music.

Engagements in the season 2023/24 include his return to Opernhaus Zürich to reprise the role of Bababeck in Offenbach’s Barkouf and to Oper Stuttgart as Teufel in the world premiere of Bernhard Lang’s Dora, new productions at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and at Opéra de Lyon as well as concerts in the Netherlands and Germany.

Most recent highlights include Nutrice/L’incoronazione di Poppea (Teatro del Liceu Barcelona), Golo in Schumann’s Genoveva with Helsinki Baroque (Helsinki, Düsseldorf, Dresden), Mr Jones in the world premiere of Raskatov’s Animal Farm (De Nationale Opera Amsterdam), Nodrice/La Finta Pazza with Cappella Mediterranea and Leonardo Garcia Alarcon (Chateau de Versailles), Bababeck in Offenbach’s Barkouf (Oper Zürich), Platée/Platée (Staatsoper Stuttgart), Andrès, Cochenille, Frantz, Pittichinaccio/ Les Contes d’Hoffman (Palau de les Arts Valencia), Triquet/Eugen Onegin (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées).

He has has worked with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Iván Fischer, William Christie, Frans Brüggen, Christophe Rousset, Richard Egarr, Reinhard Goebel, Daniele Gatti, Sir Mark Elder, Claus Peter Flor, Steven Sloane, Reinbert de Leeuw, Sylvain Cambreling, John Adams, Marc Albrecht, Avner Biron, Jonathan Stockhammer and Ed Spanjaard and with orchestras and ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, , Orchestre National de Lille, ASKO|Schönberg and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi.More
