Dutch soprano Renate Arends regularly appears in concert and opera repertoire that ranges from Monteverdi to the 20th Century, working with conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Edo de Waart, Peter Dijkstra, Marcus Creed, Iván Fischer, Christopher Moulds, Paul McCreesh, Marc Albrecht, Ed Spanjaard, Manuel Lopez-Gomez, Jan Willem de Vriend and Kenneth Montgomery.
Recent and future highlights include Bach’s Matthäus-Passion with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Residentie Orkest, La Bergère, La Chauve-souris and La Chouette in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras, both with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the Residentie Orkest (recorded for Challenge records) and the Choir of the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung with The Orchestra of the 18th Century and with The Hague Philharmonic, Mozart’s Requiem with the Residentie Orkest, Handel’s The Messiah and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Nederlandse Händelvereniging, her role-debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Bach’s Magnificat at the Zaterdagmatinee series at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, John Rutters’ Magnificat with Holland Symfonia and Vespetta in Telemann’s Pimpinone at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam. In recital, she has appeared with pianist Roger Vignoles at De Doelen in Rotterdam.
In opera, she has appeared as Frasquita in Carmen and Gianetta in L’Elisir d’Amore, both at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Elisetta in Cimarosa’s Matrimonio segreto at Scottish Opera, Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas in a production of the Festival Classique in The Hague and Virtù in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at Theater an der Wien.
Her other operatic roles include Musetta in La Bohème, Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites, Drusilla in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice, Poppea in Handel’s Agrippina, Fenena in Nabucco, Therèse in Les Mamelles de Tirésias, Adèle in Die Fledermaus and Hanna Glawari in Die Lustige Witwe.
Ms Arends graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and completed her studies at the International Opera Centrum in Amsterdam and at the Steans Institute in Chicago.
