HUBERT KOWALCZYK
General Management
Born in 1995, Polish bass Hubert Kowalczyk is a graduate from the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' in Berlin, where he studied with Prof. Martin Bruns. He has participated in masterclasses with Helmut Deutsch, Tomasz Konieczny, Mariusz Kwiecień, Sergej Leiferkus and Neil Shicoff.

In 2016/2017 he was a member of the Opera Academy at Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, coaching with Olga Pasichnyk, Hedwig Fassbender, Eytan Pessen and Matthias Rexroth. The following season, he studied at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali 'Pietro Mascagni' in Livorno with Prof. Graziano Polidori.

Between 2019 and 2021 Hubert Kowalczyk was a member of the International Opera Studio at Staatsoper Hamburg, where hisroles included Montano/Otello, conducted by Paolo Carignani, Alcindoro/La bohème, conducted by Carlo Montanaro, Brabantischer Edler/Lohengrin, conducted by Kent Nagano, Dottore Grenvil/La Traviata, conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti, Narumov/Pique Dame and D’Obigny/La Traviata, both conducted by Christoph Gedschold.
 
Elsewhere, he gave role debuts as Bartolo in a concert performance of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro with the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michał Klauza and as Collatinus in a concert performance of Britten's The Rape of Lucretia with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, conducted by Robin Ticciati. He was due to give his role debut as Haly in L’italiana in Algeri at Bregenzer Festspiele this summer, but the production had to be cancelled shortly before the premiere.
 
In the season 2021/22, Hubert Kowalczyk will join the main ensemble of Staatsoper Hamburg and appear in a concert version of Schumann’s Faust-Szenen, conducted by Kent Nagano, as Pistola/Falstaff, D’Obigny/La Traviata, Alter Diener in a new production of Elektra, also conducted by Kent Nagano, Hauptmann/Eugene Onegin, Count Ceprano/Rigoletto and as Markus in Samuel Penderbayne’s Unser kleines Scheisskaff – Fucking Åmål.
